Making air travel smarter
Flight delays cost the global economy more than $60B annually in increased operating costs and lost productivity. Lumo’s predictive analytics give businesses and travelers the power to proactively manage and minimize the impact of flight disruptions.
Lumo's unique "delay index" predictive technology provides a powerful tool to improve travel management, but they needed a smart user interface and fluid user experience to make those insights understandable and accessible to their customers.
Well begun in half done
As this was a brand new product, we started off with a comprehensive process of info architecture and user flows to define the app's complex data structures and user goals. We then meticulously explored the user experience for each screen and flow in low-fidelity wireframes. Finally, complete UI designs were built for all processes, variations, and responsive breakpoints, ensuring accuracy in product development.
Benek brought invaluable experience and perspective to our team of mostly data scientists and software engineers. He helped us turn a complex set of features and requirements into efficient/effective workflows with a stunning UI.

Diverse data visualisation
Lumo's flagship Navigator business app required an extensive array of data types and visualisations. From flight and itinerary data, weather, delay history & prediction, airports, travelers, flight delay risk/score, mapping, charts & graphs, searching & filtering, flight tracking, and more. I created a robust and consistent design language and typography treatments that make it easy to recognise and interact with each distinct data type.
Robust brand language
During the Lumo design process I consulted on branding, colour pallet, font selections, and imagery styles – to help define Lumo's digital identity. We built and refined completely custom iconography to describe Lumo's technical feature set, and defined a broad colour spectrum to highlight Lumo's unique risk score predictions.
The result was a adaptable brand toolkit that was broad enough for Lumo's complex web and mobile interfaces, but bold enough to stand out on the Marketing website and other promotional material.
We were constantly impressed with Benek’s ability to deliver extremely high quality work in a very timely manner. Benek exceeded our expectations in every way and we look forward to working with him on many more projects going forward.

Travelers on the go with various devices need access from anywhere, so it was a necessity to make Lumo's suite of travel management apps perfectly optimised for mobile and tablet devices. I left no detail unconsidered as we refined all common data types and layouts for ideal display, no matter what the screen size.
A bold public face
In contrast to the utilitarian web app, Lumo's marketing site was an opportunity to stretch the brand's wings and extend our design language into more playful territory. With extensive use of Lumo's bold colour pallet, brand patterns, and unique image styling, I designed the public marketing site to show off Lumo's exciting capabilities.
Video backgrounds, animated patterns, purposeful typography, and subtle transitions add unique touches of delight as customers explore Lumo's travel product offerings.
Technical, meet fun.
Lumo's personal, business, and API products all have their own set of custom illustrations to describe their unique feature sets, interfaces, and processes. The result is a careful balance of technical, bold, yet approachable design that showcases what makes Lumo's intelligence so powerful.
Hero images, screenshots, interface examples, illustrations, and brand patterns were all carefully devised to adapt and realign themselves for different screen sizes and orientations. Each page retains its bold and dynamic layout regardless of how you view it.
The journey from start to finish
Special attention was given to the often-overlooked but highly important cases like empty screens and loading states, to make sure the user experience was well-considered and on-brand no matter what stage of the product journey they were in. We also felt it was important that the sign up, login, and onboarding processes added to the brand experience and acted as a smooth transition between visual language of the marketing site and the app.
Thank you to Loren Werner and the Lumo team for being highly engaged and considerate clients. Their attention to detail, appreciation for design, and passion for their mission have added up make an incredible product.
